I have been working at Whole Foods Market full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Good benefits, positive environment, flexibility to come up with off-the-wall ideas and run with them. Environment supports creativity and innovation. Strong support of local products - always looking for ways to increase our local assortment and highlight the people behind them. High quality standards that set us apart from the competition.

Cons

Varying levels of commitment and buy in within the store, hectic pace which isn't for everyone, onslaught of emails! Retail environment which means never ending marathon of sales, holidays, etc.

Advice to Management

Keep John Mackey reined in - he has a way of making the rest of us look bad.

I have been working at Whole Foods Market full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Starting pay for working at a grocery is not bad Benefit package is very good At least 20% discount on purchases Casual dress code Open door policy with store management

    Cons

Customers can be extremely demanding Under performing team members are often not counseled Open everyday but Christmas (time and a half compensation on some holidays)

    Advice to Management

Try hard to retain your good workers! Under-valuing good workers, while in the short run will make marginal profits, will inevitably create a negative impact in the long run.

  2. Helpful (1)

Great first job, fun work environment, jaded management.

I have been working at Whole Foods Market part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent work environment, having fun while working is encouraged, top-notch benefits, flexible schedules.

    Cons

The juxtaposition of our committment to health, and our use of GMOs in our private label. It's ridiculous.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time connecting with your team members. It doesn't make you vulnerable, it makes you a stronger leader. No one will be loyal to you if you show indifference.
