I have been working at Whole Foods Market full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

If you are a team member, your experience at Whole Foods depends on your team leader. Thankfully, I've only had really awesome TLs. It's been 5 years, two transfers and I'm still working for Whole Foods. I am about to graduate college with a degree in Human Resources and would really like to continue working for them. The company's value system reflects mine. We say it's the "best shitty job you can have."

They are many opportunities for advancement. Almost everyone in store leadership has worked their way up. Pretty cool.

Cons

If you have a crappy Team Leader (like my partner does,) you're screwed. Sometimes I think a little too much freedom is given to Team Leaders. If they aren't doing well, instead of replacing them, store leadership wants to "fix it."

I have been working at Whole Foods Market part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great culture, open door policy regarding transparency, good benefits for full and part time team members, promotes from within, hires good people, lots of volunteer opportunities, mission driven. To get an idea of the culture, read Conscious Capitalism.

    Cons

It's basically retail, so it is customer driven and can be busy/stressful- but that's the name of the game, not management's fault. Org structure is very decentralized, so wheel may be reinvented from store to store.
