I have been working at Whole Foods Market part-time (more than an year)

Pros

Team Members are respected at all levels. We get ample lunch and break time plus many samples to try out in the break room. The discount is fair and generous. Our store is a beautiful and immaculate place to work.

Cons

Retail is retail, work hours include evenings and weekends. This is normal and to be expected.

    Pros

Good compensation, great benefits, job security, pleasant working environment, team mentality. Also, Whole Foods does so much to help people in our community and throughout the world.

    Cons

The technology used could be improved. At it's heart, WF is a hippie company and technology is not its strong suit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time on the sales floor and less time in the offices.

I have been working at Whole Foods Market full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits package once you stay long enough to qualify for it. The benefits are granted in stages based on service hours.
    Flexible schedules.
    Employee discount.
The environment educates the employee as well as the customer.
    profit sharing
Free work clothes and work shoes
Very social environment, teams often develop family dynamics.
Colorful, vibrant, high energy work environment.
Room for advancement for self-motivated workers.
    Extremely diverse work environment
Offers to teach a trade and start a career for people who need to "start over" for one reason or another.
The company for people who need a second chance or who couldn't make it anywhere else.
Extremely lenient drug / alcohol policy (tolerance varies from store to store, but often there is no enforcement...)
Numerous employee incentives for good work....from bonuses to gift cards to free meals to gifts.
The company, and each store tries to cultivate a high level of morale among the workers.
Clear and established Mission Statement, Vision, Core Values, Quality Standards.

    Cons

Low hourly wages (but the benefits package helps to boost it upwards)
    Physical labor oriented.
Many departments have extremely high turnover...they burn through workers use them up and wear them out.
    Competitive corporate leadership hierarchy
Lax or nonexistent drug / alcohol deterrent
Workforce is recruited from bottom of the labor pool. College graduates do not say to themselves..."I want to go work for Whole Foods".
Beneath the veneer of Marketing Hype, Organic and Quality and Boutique food items, it's just a McDonalds with higher quality food and a comprehensive benefits package.
