I worked at Wiley

Pros

No pressure, 9-430 working hours.

Cons

Lots of under-achievers, pay is pretty poor, non-existent staff training or improvement program, too many staff that have worked there for too long.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire some staff in key positions that have have experience working in high performance environments.. Spend some money on essential HR like staff training. Empower your staff. Get some healthy food in the staff canteen.

Great people, not great compensation, lots of changes underway.

I worked at Wiley full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

All of my managers were fair and understanding. The hours are flexible with the ability to work remotely. Also, benefits are generous.

    Cons

Common for the industry, but compensation is not great and promotions can be difficult. Many people have been around for a long time, even if ineffective, so it's sometimes tough to move up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the quality talent you have.

I worked at Wiley as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Strong tradition, some very smart people, it's right next to some really good Italian delis.

    Cons

The reorganization isn't burning fat - it's burning muscle, and the patient is starving to death. In other words, they're cutting all the experienced senior staff on the advice of consultants with no clear strategy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to halve the size of the company, just admit it and let everyone find other jobs.
