I have been working at Williams-Sonoma

    Pros

Working with people with similar interest
    Good discount
    Fun merchandise

    Cons

Environment is getting pretty harsh. Workload, responsibilities and performance monitoring increase every year, pay increase does not keep up. Numbers suggest we meet or exceed targets and there are fewer of us, so where are the rewards going?
No $, no advancement, no consistency with policies/procedures, random, short-notice work schedules. And much, much more ...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People First means employees, not the customers. Really, go back and reread the Associate Handbook. And I think bottom rung employees are included or they should have given us a different Handbook.

    I worked at Williams-Sonoma

    Pros

Great discount, fun associates, very educational for new cooks

    Cons

Adding on so much paperwork really boggs down management
    Micromanaging from corporate
Turning from a "people first" company to a "money for corporate!!!" company
Didn't give raises for three years, this was before the recession
Some corporate shenanigans, Howard Lester (old president) used to rent his own private jet to WS instead of buying their own.
Customers can be clueless, entitled and quick to anger

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Back off.
How can the staff focus in the customer if you keep asking for so many tasks? Pick one or the other or make it a happy balance.
