I have been working at Williams-Sonoma full-time (more than a year)

Pros

Discount. High-end customer (client) base, which requires creative service issue solutions.

Cons

Hourly managers do not get 40 hours, yet salaried managers get bonuses. Inequitable expectations. In order to make daily sales, desperate measures are taken ("What will it take for you to purchase this juicer today?").

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shave top management (DM's and above), and increase pay to the employees who actually work day-to-day with customers (clients). Invest in computer systems (we NEED MSOffice), improve communication between corporate and store, eliminate "mystery shoppers" (not realistic and they LIE), designer and chef discounts should be easily searchable, reduce the number of questions to ask customers (clients)--donations, email, zip code, WSVISA.

I have been working at Williams-Sonoma full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Most people are genuinely nice to others. A very exciting place to work.

    Cons

Lots of power struggling among middle management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management needs to know what worker bees are thinking about, what they need the most not just believe what middle management is saying

    I worked at Williams-Sonoma part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    High quality products, decent discount

    Cons

Poor communication skills from management to associates, disrespectful work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Winter Park, Florida location has lost nearly every single one of their seasoned & knowledgeable associates; the people who know the product, the people who know the clientele base, the people who know how to sell and make that store profitable- they have all resigned due to the incompetency of the management team.

The new associates are receiving zero training as to how the store works, how to sell, how to gift wrap, how to process a return, etc. My two years of experiences at that store have shown me a clear negative reflection on how this company is run.

The high quality products that Williams-Sonoma sells are almost always available through another retailer, or available online through Amazon (or something similar). It would serve that company well to recognize that, and to realize how to better treat its staff so that customers will continue to come back to WS rather than seek out other establishments because of poor customer service.
The "whole experience" of that store.... is non-existent.
