Pros

40% off sample sale doesn't fire slackers and under performers if you know the manager you can get hired with experience

Cons

location (near pier 39) politics salary favoritism lack of process co workers are not helpful no work from home policy

Advice to Management

listen to employees and accommodate, recognize high performing employees rather than boot lickers.

    I have been working at Williams-Sonoma part-time

    Pros

nice employees to work with at bottom level

    Cons

This company is no longer a classy upscale store that carries what you need or is good to their employees. Instead we carry silly gagdets tht are not practical but are overpriced and we don't carry some basic kitchen items that everyone should have. Top management only cares about bottom line-money and not about the best customer service. i also became embarassed 2 weeks ago when corporate told the managers to cut payroll in half at the bussiest time of tne year-no gift wrap, no answering phones, no greeting at the door-unbelievable! Pay for associates is too low and no acknowledgment of a job well done. Top management does not care about employees or try to keep them happy. Only good thing is the other associates that work there are great

    Advice to Management

Sorry but the CEO since Chuck died has run this company into the dirt

I have been working at Williams-Sonoma part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

-Hired when the associates were bright, fun, hardworking, and informed about product. -40% is a good discount but as an associate, there are no benefits and the hourly is not competitive

    Cons

-Product is getting stale and dated while prices going up too much without increased quality to customer. -Customer service taking a huge nose-dive due in large part to all of the corporate directives -Cutting hours, hiring inexperienced staff with no particular interest in kitchen stuff and given no training, useless "secret shopper" -Slow and still antiquated computer systems -Sloppy new dress code - what kind of first impression does an associate make who is dressed in sloppy jeans and a motley shirt. Let's go back to a classic look or moniter the dress of your staff better. -Weekly scheduling is done last minute and hours are sporadic. -Rarely promote from within at the store level -Tracking individual sales does not promote team approach to selling -Hawking for email, zip code, VISA etc.is annoying -Too much favoritism and small-time power play that goes with many retail businesses

    Advice to Management

Go back to what Chuck thought was important - sell a great product, put your people first, and give great customer service. All else follows.
