Williams-Sonoma – “Good coworkers, terrible senior management”
Pros
Good discount, good coworkers. Good work-life balance. Interesting products, employees took on a variety of tasks with their jobs. If you like to multi-task, good opportunities.
Cons
Difficulties at Sr Management level. Lack of respect towards anyone but merchandising. Merchants not allowed to bring ideas to the table, expected to all follow the leader. Presidents, SVPs, EVP's have their own ideas, without a basis of what the consumer wants. Misalignment of goals across areas make success at a total company level impossible.
Advice to Senior Management
Start listening to what the consumer wants, not what a San Francisco-based few would like to see. It has proven to be destructive towards business and an unrepresentative sampling of actual consumers. Keep up with competition in construction and price while maintaining and understanding what HAS worked in the past will work in the future in modified ways.
