I have been working at Wilsons The Leather Experts

Pros

The only really good thing is the employee at wilsons leather, is the employee discount and the fact that we don't punch out for breaks.

Cons

The SM is never in the store, when she does work, she's on her phone and out in the mall shopping. The hours are based on how much the person who's creating the schedule "likes" you, not the performance AT ALL. The DM's are always badgering you to meet these astronomical goals and when you don't you get yelled at. Sometimes, we get like an $8,000 goal on a Tuesday. If you want an opportunity to advance in this company, you have to do some serious ass kissing, because they only pick people who they like to be managers. The store is ALWAYS a mess and dirty, and the stock room is always so crowded and not even clean what so ever. The only time the store is clean and people do what they're suppose to do is when a DM visits.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should have more frequent secret shoppers, cameras to prevent theft from customers as well as employees, and making sure that everyone gets equal hours.

    Pros

    The benefits are pretty good, and PTO is available. Everybody recognizes the brand name, so customers are excited to shop the store.

    Cons

    High expectations for meeting goals while not having the people to help meet those goals. ( One person coverage a LOT) .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Warehouse needs to keep up with the needs of the store - for instance, Big n Tall and Plus-size womens outerwear.

    Pros

    Employee discount and new line of product called Black Rivet. Health Benefits are adequate and fair. Customers are great people and understanding.

    Cons

    The DSM has lack of communication and does not follow up. Too many emails during the day you spend most of your day reading these ridiculous emails that always read "GET THAT SALE NOW". The DSM will only contact you or follow up on your questions if you are making your sales plan. If you are having difficult within your store, forget it, the DSM will not respond unless you are making your sales. Hugh floor moves with minimal direction and confusing information to guide you through these floor moves. They are not consistent from one store to the next. The DSM has favorite store managers and has gone out after work for a "drink" however you as a manager is encouraged not to go out with your associates or managers after work. Double standard..

    Be more observant as to your DSM activities within the district. Have more respect for the Store Manager's and their recommendations or experienced situations.
