Pros

Managers care about your career development/path, will offer support for you to achieve your goals, relaxed environment, pretty campus

Cons

In general this is a good place to work, if you are seeking a low stress job where you can bring dogs and children to work. At times the environment as a result can seem a little unprofessional. The environment is very relaxed. However, things that seem too good to be true often are. You will find middle management values processes that are contrary to established business best practices. This can be frustrating. The company is 30 years old and uses the 30 year old archaic internal support software in many departments. Because these internal tools have been so inept people have been hired to compensate for the lack of functionality over the years. As internal software is at last finally being upgraded, there is a resistance to change by the teams in place whose expertise lie solely within these outdated systems. Many of these employees will have ten or more years with the company and don't seem to be interested in learning about new technology best practices used by other companies in the industry to improve internal functions and processes and grow revenue. I would say that that even suggestions to improve processes seem to be greeted with a level of animus. The new President says every department should support sales and growth, but that sentiment is largely ignored. Inter department collaboration and communication is non - existent. Massive failures have taken place and no change in personnel has occurred, there seems to be a lack of accountability and expectation to perform job responsibilities, across the board. The company has great potential and the new President says all the right things, whether he will enforce the changes necessary to achieve greatness, remains to be seen.

    Pros

If you are smart and you work hard, you are recognized for it. If you show leadership qualities, you are really recognized for it.

Engineering is full of really bright people who just want to make cool products. While the company is very sales-driven, and this sometimes means cool technology does not see the light of day, it generally keeps everybody employed which is nice.

In Alameda, everybody has their own office, and working remotely on a regular basis is fine with most managers. There's a small but good cafeteria, small gym, and great views.

    Cons

If you're an extrovert and like working in a big, noisy office, the Alameda campus is not for you. It can feel like a ghost town sometimes.

The company is trying to find supplements for its traditional income streams and that feels a bit... hectic and uncertain at the moment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a movement to reduce remote working time within engineering to spur collaboration and innovation. The average engineer at WR likes focusing on their work without constant interruption, and we already have more good ideas than we can make into products!

    Pros

Intel typically allows Wind River to pay its corporate bonus regardless of company performance

    Cons

Management team focused on milking the Intel beauracracy and padding their own personal wallets.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look in the mirror and ask yourself why you are at Wind River...to manipulate Intel for your personal benefit?
