Current Employee - Repair Technician in Maitland, FL
Current Employee - Repair Technician in Maitland, FL

I have been working at Windstream full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is decent even at Entry level. Access to a lot of awesome technology, T1's, DSL, Cisco Routers, Calix Software, Broad Band, Fiber Optic Metro-E technology. Overtime Pay is almost handed out like candy because other departments cause so many problems for Repair. Mother Nature almost always provides job security for Repair. Nice People to work with when they do their part.

    Cons

Work Load Management is poor. Lots of Different Ideas put in place and not communicated well to the floor treps. Lot of ideas fail on how to deal with work Load. Accounatabliity of problems with in the departments. No Team Work at all between different groups. Anytime you try to establish good team work and good feelings, managment moves in and says to handle it differently.

Repair is usually treated as a dumping ground when it could have been handled Day 1 of install if other departments just handled the customer like they would want to be handled on their own personal services.

Stress is a all time high for people who really DO Love Communications as a career and not just an 8 to 5 boring JOB. It gets to the point if you are the late shift person you don't feel like your a tech but an answering service/Over qualified Secretary for other departments and it keeps you from your own work load.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop letting other departments run ramshod on yours. If they aren't doing their part to work as a Team, you need to stop babying them/do their job for them, to make YOU look good because your employees are hurting thanks to your decisions. You are literally letting other departments/employees get paid on another employee's time/your departments budget. The customers, The Repair Departments, The Field Operations department.
