I have been working at Windstream full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Stable paycheck
Decent benefits
Easy to coast

Cons

Boring work
No opportunity for advancement (financially or professionally)
Company is publicly traded
All of the good employees have left, leaving behind the mediocre and the consultants

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked for NuVox, before Windstream acquired them. The merger killed the somewhat enjoyable environment that Nuvox had fostered.
In the interest of full disclosure, I honestly know nothing about truly running a company. But maybe stop buying so many companies and successfully integrate the ones you already have. It may make the investors happy to keep growing like that, but it doesn't seem to be a very sustainable business model.

    Pros

Good, reliable employer. Decent pay. Good opportunity for promotion as many layers of management.

    Cons

Long hours in the Accounting and Finance Organization. Frequent movement of staff between groups leads to loss of organizational knowlege.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work life balance should matter. Consider some version of comp time to account for the accounting cycle.

Former Employee - Sales Specialist in Richmond, VA

I worked at Windstream full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is more than minimum wage. Depends on which state you live in and which company they took over. Offers health benefits, dental, vision.

    Cons

The CEO's adgenda is all over the place. No job security. Benefits cost an arm and a leg. No upward movement. This company's profit comes from buying out small companies and then laying the employees off. They successfully discriminate on race, gender and class. No good for LGBT people

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Couldn't help them if I wanted to. Management is ever-changing. Lead by example.
