Pros

Windward's Talent pool is some of the best I have ever had the honor of working with. The competencies of the consultants here are top knotch and the quality of the work is nothing short of exceeding a clients expectations.

Cons

There is a huge downside to Windward and that is the senior leadership. The main problems reside with a senior leadership structure that does not really give the entire or even partial story to its employees. I have seen them bring consultants on board for projects that are not fully in hand, only to let those consultants go when not needed any longer. CTO level down to Practice Management would be due for an extreme overhaul. Another area that is SEVERELY lacking is the HR departments. Highly under-developed and in dire need of more competent personnel.

Advice to Management

I would say to senior management that they would mostly benefit from listening to their employees vs. making attempts to do everything behind a closed door. While in turn providing the ever so familiar "open door" fantom policy. Instead of releasing employees, better development of staff would make for a much better enviroment. Training should not be used a teaser for employment, nor should it be moved away from when cultivating employees and your overall growth structure.

    Pros

Expertise of staff and benefits. Small company but mature. Minimal pressure placed on consultants to find their own work or to focus on developing new business. Consultants are judged on the value they create for their clients rather than the value the generate for the company. No quotas or pressue to maintain a specific margin. Those areas are handled by service delivery managers.

    Cons

Poor communication down from the top. Inability to plan around next assignment as they usually change with little notice. Company reorganization causing disturbance to employees. No common vision about where the company is heading. Company's attention to employee development and training is decreasing. Employees used to be more respected and turnover is increasing.

    Advice to Management

Have some integrity. Don't sell services you can not provide. Invest in and respect your employees or they will leave.

    Pros

Great place to network and meet new people. Engineers, for the most part, are friendly and willing to help. There are opportunities to meet new people at client sites that are willing to assist in transitioning away from consulting if you so desire.

    Cons

Benefits are horrible compared to other consulting firms; however, there are multiple options of horrible to choose from. The consulting work is mostly staff augmentation with very little forward leaning activities. Sometimes it feels like the company has lost its way. Perhaps the biggest problem with this company is management. Advice to new hires would be to carefully weigh your options and consider alternative employment if possible.

    Advice to Management

Investing in your "bread and butter", specifically your consulting staff, should be obvious for a consulting firm. If you are not pampering the intellectual capital you weild, you will surely lose it to a competing firm that does a better job of taking care of the staff. At some point, management needs to reflect on their approach and posture as it is perceived by staff.
