Pros

Access to comic and entertainment industry pros and events that can help you learn, grow and become an industry insider yourself. Plenty of opportunities to do many, many, many different jobs (sometimes to your detriment, sometimes not). Access to comics and insider information about upcoming entertainment projects and properties. Getting to know some of the people in the industry, who are some of the kindest and smartest people you'll ever meet.

Cons

Though they make it seem exciting and glamorous and fun at first, Upper Management soon reveal themselves to be unscrupulous and morally questionable at best. Acting out of petty selfishness and in an effort to make themselves look impressive even at the expense of other companies and individuals (even those that work with them), the men who run Wizard run the company as though this is their first attempt at owning and operating a business and as though they just started it last month rather than almost two decades ago. (As of late, they've even resorted to firing people over the phone on Sundays rather than doing it face-to-face and having to look those people in the eye.) Company owners still act and feel as though it's the 1990s and they're the biggest and only comic book publisher and convention circuit around. Also, there is a pervasive sense of sexism against female employees, especially from Upper Management; if you're a lady who wants to work at Wizard, bring a thick skin or have a good attorney on retainer.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find humility. Realize that it's not the '90s anymore and you are not the biggest nor the only game in town. You need the companies that you work with far more than they need you. Find a seasoned Internet start-up executive with a proven track record for starting and running companies that last and that are profitable, then hire that person to run Wizard, then get out of their way. Also, hire more women and minorities in higher-ranking leadership positions (or any positions, for that matter).
