I worked at Wolters Kluwer full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Most Subsidiaries have a positive team environment
A lot of honest, hard-working individuals

    Cons

Shared Service organization is abusive towards staff
Poor management (or lack of managerial skills)
Lack of vision and clear goals makes unnecessary stress and a lot of re-work
10-16 hour days are not uncommon for months at a time
HR policy is driven to protect manager, not the staff
    Inconsistent pay ranges
Mobility based on politics rather than results/skills

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the staff and respect their feedback
If there is high turnover in the department, it would benefit everyone to look at the manager and coach accordingly instead of protect and promote.

I have been working at Wolters Kluwer full-time for more than a year

    Pros

European vacation package, decent food court

    Cons

Low pay, so far away, not challenging, very repetitive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more forthright with your employees. Being one of the younger hires, I was let go when the economy soured, but they had the audacity to keep me on staff phasing out my job to someone in Arkansas publication by publication. They gave a decent severance package, which was nice, but they could have been more honest with us. Don't tell us that everything is looking up in company wide meetings and then slash jobs when nobody is looking. The general mood of that company was always apprehensive. I don't know why you would hire the younger people who actually did work there either. The ones with the college education. For some reason senior management was always afraid of the senior employees. I never quite got-it. Grad school worked out much more than this career path did.
