I have been working at Wolters Kluwer full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Very focused on the customer, great software and serving focused professional niches. People care passionately about their domain expertise, e.g., banking, medicine, law, tax. Lot's of opportunity to move up internally

Cons

Very complex legacy structure of individual publishing firms and individual software firms transitioning into a more cohesive operating model

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on excellence in software and excellence in customer intimacy and excellence in the core to enable the other two,

I worked at Wolters Kluwer full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Very nice work environment. You get your own desk, and can choose how many monitors you'd like and/or computer. There are no restrictions at staying at your desk and eating at your desk. The job is very relaxed and self paced. I would work here in the future again for sure.

    Cons

There are no downsides to working at Wolters Kluwer Health in the Hagerstown office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe just one more person on the late shift to keep the call volume more under control at times. Other than that, everything is good!

Company That Doesn't Know Where It Wants to Go

I have been working at Wolters Kluwer full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of benefits...20 PTO days, 12 Holidays, lots of good insurance options, and it's a really slooooooooow pace. It's great if you don't want to have to do a lot of work.

    Cons

There's basically no promotion from within. There's no promotion or hiring really. The publishing side of the business is dying a slow death. And the leadership is nonexistent. If you have an idea to make things better, you will be discouraged from doing anything about it by your manager. There's a lot of corporate speak and people who are good at sounding smart, but very few actual doers. And the upper management is only interested in investing in things that are going to reduce head count. When software is being developed, the first requirement given is that the software must reduce head count. It's a terrible place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to completely turn around the culture. Get your VPs out on the floor working with people. Flatten out the organization. Middle managers are tabling process improvements that are very necessary because they're afraid that you're going to ask for them to cut headcount if you find out that a time saving possibility exists. It's a real disincentive to innovate. Also 90% of your staff has been in publishing way too long. Publishing isn't the same as it used to be. And you have no tech-friendly youth in the company.
