I worked at Wolters Kluwer as a contractor

Pros

If you are a contractor, then I guess work-life balance. Once you hit the 40 hours a week, you are done. Management will be too cheap to ask you to work overtime.

Cons

Extremely unorganized and horrible communication between teams and departments. There is an obvious divide between older employees and younger employees. All the younger employees are open with each other about how bad it is to work there, and are seeking new opportunities. They also have the highest ratio of contractors to full time employees I've ever seen. Top management doesn't care about anything but money.

I worked at Wolters Kluwer full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Salary was decent although the benefits have been steadily getting worse over the last few years. Management never seems to figure out what they want, so employees get a flavor-of-the-week approach to problem solving. Benefit from a niche market with little competition. Dedicated employees that understand the voice of the customer.

    Cons

Obsession with profits with little attention to working conditions. Poor prospects for growth and very little training provided. Most management seems to be hired from outside Wolters Kluwer

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you take care of your employees, your employees will take care of the customer. Listen to veterans that know the customer and profits will take care of themselves.

    Pros

Excellent benefits and some really good individual employees

    Cons

irrational adherence to the belief that every aspect of new software development could be estimated and scheduled prior to initiation of work on a new feature. lead to endless rounds of estimation.
