Pros

The company supports a balanced work-life schedule. Time off for necessary medical and family situations is rarely questioned. If necessary, remote work is usually and option. The company has invested significant resources into understanding their customers and has made improvements in reaction to their findings.

Cons

Middle management was not effective in supporting personal and career growth. Employees are likely to be trapped in their current role because their immediate supervisor is not skilled in the ways of people development. The size of the company makes it difficult for true professional relationships to develop; with so many levels of leadership, the strategic decision makers are too far removed from the worker bees making it all happen.

Advice to Management

This company would benefit from a change towards recognizing its employees are the number 1 asset. Investing properly in the workforce will lead to better performance. Bounds of talent is going untapped because the leadership has not identified this as critical to success.

    Pros

It is a large company with room for advancement at lower levels and you can gain experience in the hotel industry. Benefits (health insurance 401k) are comparable with other similarly situated companies and the pay scale is anot awful. Other workers are generally supportive of each other. Home office employees are moving into a new very nice building as of March, 2009.

    Cons

You never really get ahead. When they decide you have been there too long and you make too much money you get downsized. Incompetent senior managers often keep their jobs by political infighting having nothing to do with their skills. People steal your ideas and get ahead with them by taking credit for them. People who have no idea what they are doing often end up making bad management decisions. The company and the industry are headed down the tubes for quite some time so there is little hope for long term financial growth. The best people have already quit or been fired so you are now dealing with the B or C team both in senior and middle management.. This company's best days have passed them by. look elsewhere for real opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Resign and hand over the reigns to people who are competent and fair to longstanding experienced middle managers who actually run the company

    Pros

In my department, QA, the freedom of being on the road, not having a boss breathing down your neck, free to pick schedules, etc...

    Cons

To many re orgs, like every other month it seems they have changes. Many higher ups have no hotel experience, as Ken Greene, came from Oceanspray. Low employee morale, no chance for advancement. I was with them 25 years

    Advice to Management

I would suggest they take the various hotel training courses, as Mr. Valleta, from Super 8, does not even know what size TV's are required for a Super 8 guest room.
