Could have been much better- despite promises, NO real opportunity to contribute or advance career- very disappointing!

ProsSome flexibility in work schedule
Fast-paced work environment, can be challenging physically at times, but also can be fun
Fair pay for simple contract work (IMAC) projects
Potentially large variety of work environments- requires quick mental adaptation to differing requirements
HUGE potential for company growth, but needs policy changes, better marketing strategy and probable capital investment to carry it past the "wobble point"

ConsTry to think of the following not as "downsides", but opportunitites to re-direct policies towards improving the growth potential of the company, and the long term satifaction of current/future employees! To be fair, this is a SMALL company, but has been in existence long enough to learn from the mistakes of others.

-Poor pay for technically skilled workers, and no benefits available (nada, zip, zilch). Therefore, the only real difference between LTE, 1099 and W-2 employees is the taxes deducted. Oops, I forgot- three PTO days off per calendar year:)
-No reimbursement for travel expenses to work/client sites, despite this being a signicant cost for employees- needs to be factored into project/ support contract rates.

-Nepotism: Utilization of family members to "get the job done", sometimes without any clear compensation. Quiet discrimination in favor of relatives, which can be detrimental to a fair and honest work environment. Communication was stifled or non-existent, work flow impeded or changed because "they wanted it that way." Objectivity is paid tribute via lip service, but not by actions.

-Too much reliance on short term projects vs. managed services: Despite a large potential in the market for managed services delivery to small/medium sized businesses, Xeriom continues to rely largely on short-term IMAC projects for most of the company revenue. This is a great model for short term profit, but very poor for long-term sustainability and skilled employee retention. "Feast or famine" mentality makes for a very stressful work week- are you going to get paid for a full paycheck this period, or just hope for a call from work at the last minute?

-No opportunities to grow/advance job skills or certification: I worked alongside many individuals that had great potential for learning new skills and obtaining certifications, which would be of great benefit to the company in marketing and obtaining new contracts for managed services. I saw no evidence that this was encouraged or even supported. Management seemed content to settle for hiring short-term non-skilled labor for short-term profit.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest more in your employees in terms of benefits and training- it will go a long way in making your company a lasting success, and provide employees with opportunities to advance their career within your company.
Delegate more, and not just to family members- you need to dump the micro-managing approach. Your company will not grow unless you do. Manage more with clear written policies, not with last minute phone calls.
You have a great business model for managed services- use it, but put more time and money into it. Better yet, delegate that to a qualified and motivated individual to drive the business model for you.
