I have been working at Xerox

Pros

Xerox is solid company to work for, with a need for a wide variety of skills. In return, salaires vary widely and are competitive in each of the regions whare Xerox has facilities.

Cons

Xerox has a history of repeated layoffs. The layoffs often result in the loss of top talent as well as poor performers. And they result in cyclical morale issues and ineffiencies in operations.

Blindly descending into obsolescence with an outdated management philosophy and ineffectual management!

I have been working at Xerox

    Pros

People know the name (could be good or bad depending on how well you know the company)
Fairly stable. Layoffs aren't massive compared to the number of employees, but rather frequent (3 layoffs in 1-1/2 years!

    Cons

Xerox seems to be always behind the market, playing catch up with competitors, never the leader in the industry they created!
If you don't fall into the 'Sales' or 'PARC Engineer' categories, you mean nothing to the company.
Back-office infrastructure is critically out of date.
Disorganized and inept! Company restructures repeatedly and without a discernible goal.
Pay is well below standard for most positions below VP and Organization Leaders.
No opportunity to advance. All upper management just keeps getting shuffled, but no one ever seems to move up.
All raises (regardless of reason) have been frozen for a long time but company performance has been better than planned for the entire freeze period.
Job descriptions are also intentionally under-stated in terms of workload and responsibility to seem like lateral moves and justify a lack raises in the future.
Deadline for returning raises keeps getting extended and Xerox is laying off more people to make it happen - poor business decision!
Employees get more frequent and more accurate updates about company news from newspapers than from management.
There's NO HR! There is an HR rep, but HR and Operations Managers have made it clear that your direct Manager is your HR contact or the 800-hotline. The HR Rep is only there to advise Managers. You have no way to escalate HR issues involving your manager and managers are ill-equipped to deal with HR issues.

This company has no clear direction and no respect for its rank and file employees. However, it will continue to exist for years to come with a diminishing relevance in the marketplace. That is, unless someone turns the place around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a REAL HR department engages the employees or at least create an Ombudsperson to allow workers another avenue to address problems.
Ignoring management issues only makes situations worse and opens the company to suits.
Tell employees the truth and respect them, you can do that and still keep some details secret until it is appropriate to reveal them.
Look to use automation to expand capabilities and customer offerings with the same employees instead of increasing automation so you can do the same work with fewer employees.
Care about Non-Sales employees! They do the work Sales creates.

I have been working at Xerox

    Pros

Nice office, free coffee, great demo room

    Cons

Management dishonest about compensation and not helpful. I would not suggest working at office tech.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest and upfront to employees about compensation, get rid of the mandatory 6k margin each month, higher base pay, better compensation on mileage, more willing to help train and coach new employees.
