    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Technology companies who are led by non-technical people can thrive, but only if they don't institute a top-down management style and pretend like they have all the answers.

Pages printed is on the decline. You can't keep cutting Engineering and squeezing cost out there and expect the business to grow. Where are the new products / innovation from PARC? When was the last time a new product came from the so-called innovation engine of this company? Absent something from PARC, how about some initiatives that tap into the innovative skills of your engineering workforce? Oh wait, that's been outsourced to HCL. Never mind. Stop ignoring the red flags that working with Indian partners is fraught with serious problems. The vice-presidents who make these decisions do not realize the impacts on project schedules because they are too busy patting themselves on the back for saving virtual dollars, and then they are not held accountable because they are off to the next thing.

Supposedly Ursula is a champion of diversity in the workplace, but you could have fooled me. If she wanted to open up jobs for minorities and women, she would have adopted a strategy of less outsourcing and more hiring of American workers. As it stands, the jobs are going to other countries. She might have been too busy doing photo-shoots for Diversity, Inc. to notice.
