Pros

IF current projects fly, the growth potential is tremendous. The people are by and large incredible despite the tension that exists.

Cons

The split between "Divisions" the engineering resources could be shared between divisions and the lack of "teaming" of talent; create a rift and a rumor mill that is harmful to the health of the company as a whole.

Advice to Management

Is this Xyratex? Or is it 2 companies under a single corporate banner? Utilize the incredible deep talent pool effectively. Manage projects with realistic expectations of work load vs. delivery time and cost. The infighting is, to put it pointedly and simply........ petty. The rank and file deserve better.

    Pros

Good fun technology, It used to have a lot of good people there, but most are gone now. It was close to home, but that has changed with all the reorganizations.

    Cons

Horrible management, and a series of ridiculous decisions. Bad work environment, lots of politics. No time to do it right, but plenty of time to do it again; wrong. Work on retrofit to lose market share, not new technology to stay afloat.

    Advice to Management

Hire back the deseigners, engineers, techs, assembly people, and fabricators that your over-bloated management and bad decisions have displaced.

    Pros

Xyratex have a great team at the 'coal face' lots of very dedicated people working towards a common goal.

    Cons

Xyratex has an odd culture, they are about 1500 strong workforce but they have a management ethos and set up of a company ten times that size, managers managing managers, directors, VPs about three times more than is really needed. As such there was very little chance to move up and I was very keen to progress, there is also a 'magic list' of people that will get a promotion regardless. Its a shame, as I really enjoyed it there.

    Advice to Management

Split the company, having the divisions is madness, also if you are making cuts remove a layer of management.
