Little room for growth

Former Employee - Director in Los Angeles, CA
Former Employee - Director in Los Angeles, CA

I worked at YMCA full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Stable, and flexible work schedules allow you to do multiple tasks or have multiple jobs at one time. Little upper management to have to deal with when working to complete task given. Work setting is casual and work week is standard.

Cons

Salaries are considerable lower than industry average. Little reconigintion given for excellent work performance. You will find many duds in the company that upper management refuses to fire even though there useless.

I have been working at YMCA part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Members, they are so friendly and nice, easy to network with. Co-workers, the part time workers are awesome to work with.

    Cons

Management sucks, they are lazy and only care about themselves. The directors only care about their own success and will do anything to make themselves look better or make others look worse. The pay also kind of sucks.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to your staff. Be leaders and set an example. Appreciate your workers because without them you guys would be lost and shut down, they do so much for you guys and the Y.

  2. A very good place to work - has a great staff and ample opportunities for professional development.

It is very satisfying to be directly making a difference in the lives of many of the families in the community.

    Cons

The level of professionalism of some of the employees can sometimes be lacking at times and it the dissemination of information is somewhat lacking at times.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication with employees and consumers not only on site, but those at the after school program sites and in the community.
