I worked at YMCA for more than 3 years

Pros

Get to be an advocate for after school programs, mentor and help kids in low income areas

Cons

There is a whole lot of micromanagement from the central staff director and the program director is never around to answer questions or to assist in matters that pertain to the job

I worked at YMCA part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people that work their are kind, and for the most part have great heart

    Cons

They reward time put in instead of skills for upward movement. Sexual comments regularly overheard by others

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value the skills that employees have over valuing someone who has been there for a long time, especially when it comes to important management positions.

I worked at YMCA full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Connections with the local community and a variety of services offered, free YMCA membership

    Cons

Very low pay, no benefits besides the Y gym membership, high turn over

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In order to decrease employee turn over and improve the Y services, particularly in the daycare business, you need to increase pay and provide more professional development
