I have been working at YMCA full-time

    Pros

Most staff are hardworking people sacrificing much for the common goal of furthering the mission.

    Cons

There is minimal accountability or proper stewardship of assets by locally managed YMCAs. Headquarters in Chicago is too far removed from local day to day fiscal operations to understand what us occurring with the lack of proper stewardship.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

OK place to get some experience, but not much else

I worked at YMCA as an intern

    Pros

Get hands on learning experience about the ins and outs of their various programs and departments. Everyone is very nice.

    Cons

Gets boring sometimes, work flow is not smooth. Plenty of work at moments, and other times the day just seems to go by slowly. Unpaid for my position, which is OK. Just wished they provided a transportation or even a lunch stipend. Working out of your own pocket does not do anything for your motivation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide unpaid positions with transportation/food stipend at least. I know the YMCA works under a strict budget and donations but NYC is a big place. Getting free work is better than nothing.
