I worked at YMCA part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

My coworkers were fantastic people, wanting to make positive impacts in the lives of those who were part of the YMCA community. The patrons were all very friendly as well. Teaching swim lessons was fun for me as an instructor, and the students seem (mostly) all happy to be there.

    Cons

There was a change in management that many of the staff didn't find fair, which caused tension between staff and management. The new management made changes within the YMCA to reflect financial issues, which many staff didn't agree with. Facility is older and not squeaky-clean. Also, as a lifeguard/swim instructor, don't expect a higher-than-average salary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work with the staff, not against them. Politics are not a way to handle issues.
