Former Employee - Childcare in Middletown, CT
Former Employee - Childcare in Middletown, CT

I worked at YMCA part-time (more than an year)

Pros

willing to work with college students, if you need to change hours because of a class or need to change what days you can work its normally not a program

Cons

dealing with parents , dealing with melt downs with students, if a student a bad day in school they most likely will bring it into after care and it becomes your problem as well, rainy days ! the kids hated not going outside and are difficult to deal with on rainy days

Advice to ManagementAdvice

check in more with college students it can hard sometimes going to school and working with school age students

I have been working at YMCA part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Non-profit that really cares about bettering it's community.

    Cons

Not very quick to give salary and especially hourly raise opportunities, regardless of positive evaluation(s), etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure all of your employees (especially the good ones) are valued equally and monetarily to ensure longer stay within the company.

I worked at YMCA part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I've transferred between three YMCAs and they have all been great. Great people, same policies and procedures, same responsibilities, no funny business.

    Cons

As a part time employee, depending on the Y and the season it can be hard to get the hours you're looking for. As a lifeguard, sometimes the younger staff doesn't appreciate their responsibility but that comes with age.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work.
