I have been working at YMCA part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I really love working with all of my coworkers. If it weren't for them, I probably wouldn't still work there due to the pay. It will be very difficult to leave. The members typically are great too - lots of conversations with them though I don't work at member services so I usually don't have to deal with much complaining. I work with kids and it really is a fun place, not to mention I love how much the Y does for the community.

    Cons

Pay. While I got pretty consistent reviews and raises, I have been with the Y for 7 years and I only make $8 an hour. It's a little exhausting to see that number. Sometimes they seem more concerned about their budget than they do about actually paying staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that if you pay more, you will get good, well trained and capable staff who care a lot more about your members and who will actually stick around.
