Advice to ManagementAdvice

One thing that I learned while working for the YMCA is management needs to keep a open communication to their front line staff and to be open to suggestion from their front line staff. I also notice with the last YMCA that I was at there were lacking the true leader that will help grow their staff to what they want them to be.

I have been working at YMCA full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to meet a variety of people and practice professional interpersonal skills. Management and staff worked well together and showed respect and friendliness not only to each other, but to members and visitors.

    Cons

If I knew I could make a decent living working with this organization I would go back in a heartbeat. But unfortunately I barely made enough to pay the bills.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognizing your staff's hard work and offering incentives/bonuses will go a long way in attracting and maintaining employees.

I worked at YMCA part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

You are offered a very flexible schedule and can pick the hours that you want to work at the beginning of the summer. Management is willing to work around your schedule.

    Cons

The place is understaffed and mismanaged so there is a lot of responsibility and headaches for very little pay.
