I worked at YMCA full-time

Pros

people are generally nice and prosocial, with the exception of a few of my male lifeguard coworkers. I worked at two locations, and both of my bosses were amazing.

Cons

the pay was not great. at one point I was teaching something upwards of six or seven swim lessons a day, and so became increasingly burnt out. the work was extremely emotionally draining, and I felt that I was expected to give and give but with nothing in return.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

please don't ask us to drive all the way to work just to teach a single swimming lesson. we lose money on this.

    Cons

not being paid a salary that reflects years of experience and/or educational level, there was no upward mobility within the company

I have been working at YMCA part-time for more than a year

    Pros

-You get to really help people in the community
-Lots of work to keep you busy
    -Free gym membership

    Cons

The leadership really doesn't seem to care much for us "underlings". They put on a mask and greet us with smiles that never reach their eyes. They never ask us how they can improve, but are quick to lash out if we make mistakes. There also isn't any opportunity to grow. Once annual reviews (That they will withhold from some individuals. One of my coworkers has been an employee for over 7 years and has only been given 3 raises.)

Please take care of your employees.
