    I worked at Yahoo full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Many nice people, they try to make employees happy with events and nice cafeteria. Some latitude to contribute and work independently.

    Cons

    Lots of managers who got there by playing games rather than on merit. Fat management. Product roadmaps were silo'd and people didn't work together or help each other. Very disorganized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get rid of half your managers. Clean up your neglected products like Mail. It's degraded.

    Pros

    Friendly coworkers and some really smart people trying to make a difference. Relaxed atmosphere, good work life balance.

    Cons

    Too many legacy Yahoos in middle management who block positive change. Culture of wait until a problem is escalated and out of control rather than working on prevention. Bad decisions based on favoritism.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Cut out a level of management and you'll remove a large chunk of the roadblocks that get in the way.
