I have been working at Yahoo full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

This company is phenomenal. The most prolific and giving company I have ever worked for. All of the perks you've heard about as well as stellar managerial communication make it the best company for new talent.

Cons

None that I can think of.

I worked at Yahoo as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Free food, gym on site, smart people everywhere. Compensation is great and the company seems to be moving in a better direction with Mayer at the helm.

    Cons

People felt they could get fired anytime but that was around the time Marissa Mayer took over.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try hiring on the best interns you get. It seemed like the 3 interns you chose were the worst ones.

Learned so much... good & bad. All in all the experience was totally worth it.

    Pros

The people & culture. The challenge. The growth potential/possibilities. The perks.

    Cons

Co-location is key... and the closer to Sunnyvale HQ the better the opportunities/visibility is. Questionable middle management still exists.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There's still a lot of middle management that do not "seem" to share the new vision (which is well-received by the individual contributors at Yahoo!) / cultural change flowing from top down, which discourages a lot of direct-reports. Middle-manager's reviews "appear" to play the largest part in determining the future path of an individual contributor... so if a not so great manager exists within the organization and a stellar direct report happens to be under him/her, then that direct report, often times can feel "stuck" with a bad/average rating, minimal increases/bonuses, dead-end job pathing, etc. Unless your manager is REALLY good, then not being co-located further magnifies this problem.
