Current Employee - Senior Software Engineer (Ic4) in Sunnyvale, CA

I have been working at Yahoo full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Work life balance is good.
Work is good , learning is much better than other companies
CEO is good trying hard but all need to help her to get turnaround( I feel that 'all' is missing)

    Cons

Direction is lost. Seems like swimming in ocean water and trying to reach the shore.
Executive management does not know much whats going on ground other than very high level.
Head count is way high than needed. No one asks for justification why we need so many people.
Middle management is not higher quality.
Frequent layoffs in company. Wont recommend if you plan for green card by yahoo inc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

See whats going on the ground.

Former Employee - Vice President Product Management in Sunnyvale, CA

I worked at Yahoo full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

o Learn all about how to transform a huge company from the ground up - it's what they need.
    o Smart people work there.
o Incredible benefits and good pay.

    Cons

o Horribly political - not sure it's changed much since 2012. It's who you know, and top management likes to "skewer" people.
o Addicted to display advertising as primary source of revenue, and seemingly unwilling to make investments in alternate revenue streams.
o Still about content vs. technology. If you want to gain some chops in tech, not the place to go.
o About 5 years late in mobile.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Diversify. Take risks. Really, truly go mobile.

    Disapproves of CEO
