Pros

There are some smart, talented folks working for Yahoo.
Compared to other tech companies, the work environment is pretty tame, and supportive of work/life balance.

Cons

The lack of company vision or even hope of market success is depressing. When I tell friends in the industry that I work for Yahoo, they offer their condolences.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out what you want to be when you grow up, before you lose all of your mojo.

Yahoo is a great company that has to go through some tough time to rise again

    Pros

Company culture is very open, friendly, respectful of others. Work life balance is great.
The scale of projects and audience is huge and therefore interesting. You will find that at very few companies.
Easy to move internally to another job. supportive environment
It is still on of the very top web company in the world.

    Cons

Big company structure so things are slow. The organizational structure is clearly not optimal although changing quiet a lot lately (hopefully for the better).
The company has some difficulties right now but has some good opportunities as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clarify the Org so decisions can be made instead of fostering consensus all the time. A strong leadership makes decisions, and executes.

    Pros

    1) good/decent pay
    2) lots of bright, intelligent people to work with
    3) good opportunities for career growth if you have initiative
    4) good opportunities to learn, if you have initiative

    Cons

    1) always a firefight, every day
    2) lots of stupid people to work with (law of averages)
    3) at the time i was there, the layoff situation/notices was entirely demoralizing
    4) executive management (starting with filo & yang, then all their cronies, and finally carol) at yahoo is such a joke. they are disinterested in any of their employees, only mindful of their personal agendas. sadly, things got done by extremely motivated middle management and below--anyway--despite the idiocy from the top
