Pros

Working with adolescents is very fulfilling, especially in a religious context.

Cons

Upper management is not listening to their staff's concerns, very poor retention.

Advice to Management

1. Listen to your staff and the needs they present. It's poor management and servant leadership.
2. Quit trying to limit staff's pay in order to essentially see if they're "really called to ministry or not..."
3. Start over with the Area Director job description--you've managed to allow it to become an animal.

    Pros

The community is like no other. You will build life-time relationships in this organization. The work is meaningful, you are tangibly making a difference in teens lives. Also, it's fun!!

    Cons

It's easy to burn-out because the "work-load" is never-ending. You have to be good at setting boundaries or it takes up your entire life. Also, you have to fundraise a lot.

    Advice to Management

When hiring new staff, maybe try not letting them work in the field until they have had adequate training (as opposed to training them as they work) Especially with regards to fundraising. Also, don't hire part-time staff. It doesn't work.

  2. For Christ and community, not Glory

I have been working at Young Life part-time

    Pros

Volunteer nature makes it extremely likely that you work with selfless, awesome people. Similarly, you work with kids and play lots of games, so your peers tend to be fun.
Very rewarding to help kids and further the YL mission.

    Cons

    Big commitment, requires courage/awkward moments
