I have been working at Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corp.

Pros

No where to spend your money. Student loans can be paid off.

Cons

The cost of living is very high. You can only leave via airplane and it costs approximately $350 round trip to fly into Anchorage for specialized medical, shopping or even to go to the movies. There is nothing to do on your days off. No movies, very few restaurants and they all have the same food, nothing that you would have in a regular city.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your regular staff instead of the travelers. If you pay a traveler $40 an hour then $40 an hour to their company, plus round trip transportation, plus housing, and you only pay your regular employe $40 an hour the 6% you put into their account at the end of the year does not equate not with the harsh living environment and the cost of living in an isolated village.

I worked at Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corp. full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

UPAK PEOPLE are wouderful. They are honest and welcoming but mostly poorly educated . This allows YKHC to operate with very littlr effective oversite

    Cons

Organization is unethical due to leadership. Once Gene Petola left, the organization breaks all the rules of ethical corp. management. Leadership gets away with this due to its isolated location and poorly educated stakeholders

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dan Winkleman and his whole leadership needs to be replaced. The organization operates outside nomal business and ethical standard. Self dealing, gratuities, sexual harrasment. health and employment laws are ignored. Most of the executive leadesship team is wholely unqualified for the positions they hold.
