Won't reward performance for non-sales positions

I worked at Zillow full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Flexible hours; good immediate coworkers; nice office amenities and snacks

Cons

Management still thinks the company is a start-up even though it's a public company. Management said that they will always pay below the market value range of a position. So if you're happy with $35k to $40k on average, this is your place. If you expect $60k, good luck. Also, don't expect people to be professional here. The coworkers (mainly the sales team and management) take everything personally and do not conduct themselves in a professional manner. If you're a factual person, this is not the place for you. The company functions very business backwards (i.e. develop the website but don't consider or work on how it'll actually impact day-to-day work). Also, for a small company, communication is very poor between small teams (at most 10 people) nonetheless between departments. If you're fresh out of college, this is a place to start, but don't plan on developing a career here.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay people what they're deserved. Don't be locked into review cycles. If someone is doing an amazing job, do something to reward and retain the talent.

I have been working at Zillow full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It's all about contributing to the success of the common goal. Everyone has that ability and does just that. The place is stocked full of smart people that really enjoy their work. Just because they are smart and highly motivated doesn't mean we don't have a good time. There are always company sponsored events/parties, weekly speakers, catered lunches, people playing ping pong or hanging out in the video game room. Expectations are very realistic here. They don't demand 80 hours a week out of you. It's all about getting your job done. The management is fantastic. They all have a lot of good veteran experience but don't talk down to you or have an ego. Overall it is a fantastic place to work.

    Cons

None other than expense reports but you'll have to deal with that with any employer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the great work and continue to be tough when hiring.

I have been working at Zillow full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Enthusiastic upper management who clearly communicates to company mission and goals. Fun to work with so many talented people. Senior management makes a point of recognizing employees who go above and beyond and make great contributions to the company.

    Cons

Average pay and benefits. Company expanding very quickly and playing catch-up to accomodate new growth - both in terms of office space and development infrastructure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work. Continue to be transparent and foster employee growth opportunities.
