I worked at Zinio as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    concept
    list of magazines
NEW leadership - especially the east coast business minded folks

    Cons

    lack of organizational structure
    fleeting decisions made in silo's
racist engineering divisions created by a peacock haired facist dictator who looks down upon others and is supported by his spineless, indecisive, manager
incessant unnecessary use of foul language

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

TOP management- pick a vision and then STICK WITH IT, rid yourself of cantankerous cancers that never offer any positive suggestions whilst maintaining an air of false superiority. it's not a mega conglomerate, it's a small company with huge upside.

    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

You can have all the penthouse, playboy and Nuts mags that you can ever read.

    Cons

7 reason why engineers don't thrive here:
    (7) 9.30am to 5.30pm Core hours are for FTE and WFH is encouraged at night and during weekends. You might even get text less you forget.
    (6) Political battles between leaders have torn up the team. IC's are encouraged to pick sides. Even the CEO and the President are contradicting each other.
    (5) Marketing strategy involves giving it away for free or spamming the crap out of the small user base
    (4) The office help can withhold bagels just because and HR likes reminding you to flush after you do your thing. Its like having your mom at work only that its not really your mom.
    (3) Extremely poor compensation and a mysterious equity package. You find out 7 months in to the job its next to worthless. If you didn't know its worthless its because you can't count and never read the fine print.
    (2) Gift cards are a form of compensation and so is the invisible bonus. If you didn't even get one its because you are not important.
    (1) Contractors get $100 -> 250 per hour and works on the best projects with no supervision. FTE gets RTB or redesign the redesign which was redesigned before.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend the money on your full time hires. Going back to waterfall isn't going to save you. Getting rid of Product and booting out tenured VPs are the only way forward. A talent buy out won't happen because there is no talent. Your IP value is deteriorating and was never worth that much to begin with. HR does not have the pulse of Zinio. All the psycho analyzing by walking around isn't going to work. Talk to the engineers directly even if this means you have to stoop down to their level. Last but not least, you can't use a fortune cookie to decide where to spend your marketing dollars. It does not work that way.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
