Just Awful - Over 50% of the staff quits or is fired every year. Enough said

    Pros

    - Good location - Good intellectual property. They have a very solid portfolio of publishers, they just fumble when it comes to creating anything appealing to users.

    Cons

    - If you are an engineer, designer, PM, or QA, Do Not Join Zinio. You will regret it. This is the wrong place for you if you care about your career, working with good people or developing winning products. I quit Zinio after working there for a about a year. The company is full of snakes that the work to appease upper management more than create products. If you've ever worked at a company that led with great product development, it is nothing like this. The only strategy is how to make more $ this quarter. Which they also fail at. Absolutely no regard is given to innovative products or features. In fact, the engineering mandate is "no new features". - If you are an engineer like I was, run away. Far away. Or ask for 40%+ what you should normally be paid. That might not even be enough given how detrimental Zinio will be for your sanity and career. Don't think you have enough leverage to ask for a higher salary? You do. Zinio can't attract talent to save it's life. - After having to redesign the redesign the redesign due to stakeholders, management will bring in consultants for any and all interesting work. Zinio's history is in bringing in consulting firms to design/build all their products. Then once they realize it's too expensive to maintain, they try to hire full-time employees. Only to realize, they are maintaining junk that can't be properly integrated. - Zinio's architecture is hideous and clumsy. In their defense, there has been so much churn that no one person has any clue how the backend works. Over 50% of the staff quits or is fired each year! At least one person leaves per week. It's odd if a week goes by without someone quitting or being let go. The average tenure on my team was between 6-12 months. And the company has been around for 12 years? It's absurd. - Employee satisfaction continues to plummet year over year, like the market share.. - Results are not rewarded or recognized, only stakeholder buy in. Politics rule. - Engineers are treated like second rate citizens. - Consultants will be making commits to your codebase before you even know they are on the team. - The culture has a very dark and negative tone. Most people are looking for their way out, including management.

    Advice to Management

    - You are excellent at destroying a golden opportunity. Your continued devotion to sales and marketing gimmicks above actual product and engineering innovation is sad. I don't think it's in Zinio's DNA to innovate. Not one person in the C-level has a clue as to any real vision. They're all the along for the ride following whoever can shout the loudest.

    Pros

concept list of magazines NEW leadership - especially the east coast business minded folks

    Cons

lack of organizational structure fleeting decisions made in silo's racist engineering divisions created by a peacock haired facist dictator who looks down upon others and is supported by his spineless, indecisive, manager incessant unnecessary use of foul language

    Advice to Management

TOP management- pick a vision and then STICK WITH IT, rid yourself of cantankerous cancers that never offer any positive suggestions whilst maintaining an air of false superiority. it's not a mega conglomerate, it's a small company with huge upside.
