Zones – “Don't expect much, and little will be expected of you.”
Pros
The commute was a breeze, and the low pay isn't quite so painful when you take that into consideration. That said, I was in fairly low-end position. You can't expect to be paid what your skills are worth here.
Cons
I was fortunate enough to have a very supportive direct manager (Yvonne Price, she's fantastic) but just about everything else at this company is a joke. Zones has no process management whatsoever. Management is completely focused on cost cutting, with no concern for employee retention or quality control. Support departments are woefully understaffed, so while you may be permitted (and I do mean permitted, these things are frowned upon) to go on a vacation, you cannot expect a damn thing to get done while you're gone. Also, as this is a fairly small company with a large number of "lifers," there are not a lot of opportunities for promotion. You'll have to make a lot of lateral moves to ascend in this company, and as they say, "jack of all trades, master of none."
Advice to Senior Management
Outsourcing everyone's job is terrible for morale, and costs more money in the end.
Sometimes you need to spend money to make money: nearly all of your competent employees leave for higher salaried positions elsewhere.
You leave the company open to lawsuits by turning a blind eye to sexual harassment by senior management.
Just because someone can't hack it on the sales floor, doesn't mean they'll be any good at anything else. The same goes for for attractive women. Unfortunately, castoffs from these 2 groups fill most support positions.
