I have been working at Zumiez part-time (more than an year)

Pros

Discounts are probably the best part about working here, proforms etc. Discount percentage changes with each job title, 25% for sale associates up to 50% for store managers. Opportunities to go on cool trips as a reward for sales performance. Commission given for sales over $100. Really cool relaxed culture.

Cons

The pay sucks, but discounts and commission kind of make up for it especially if you are good at selling. Been working at different locations for over 2 years and have never seen anyone get a raise. You usually don't get a lot of hours unless you are an assistant manager. Not much upward movement

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have a lot of really bad managers at the store level and should focus more on promoting people from with in the company.

    Pros

Awesome discounts, 50% off in house brands, other discounts depend on your position. You learn to really love your coworkers like family, and they do introduce you to the job in a way that makes you think you're going to love it.

    Cons

Have you ever been into a Zumiez and been so annoyed by their constant "customer service" that you didn't even want to shop anymore? Yeah, that's their company policy. You HAVE to do that, even if people obviously don't want to be talked to or helped. Believe it or not, it does happen. The compensation is horrible. As a second assistant I only make $10.50/hr, on the high end, as compared to other places that START their assistants at $14-15/hr. The company plays favorites, they expect you to drop your life and everything you're doing to work for Zumiez.... everyone is very hard to please. Every store has way too much merchandise in it and there isn't any formal training. This company is awful.

Get some meds for your ADD and do something productive.

I worked at Zumiez full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

This is a people first company. There is a lot of opportunity to grow with the company. This is by far the best company I ever worked for. It's fun, fast paced, and competitive.

    Cons

In order to be successful with this company you have to make it your whole life. Working for Zumiez is a lifestyle. They don't pay as well as other retail companies, but they make up for it with all the rewards that come with the job and the fact that they put their employees first. If you don't want your job to be your whole life and who you are, then this isn't the job for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep taking care of your people. If you have the extra money to spare, put it towards paying your employees a little better or more raises. Keep moving forward and investing in the technologies you have been using with online in store sales and inventory reporting. These are DEFINATELY sales drivers bc it allows your sales people to truly give the best customer service.
