Former Employee – worked at bebe stores
Pros – The discount
Flexible hours (but that's with any retail company in the field)
If you're in school and like the clothes this is a decent job, just beware that however much you make there is probably how much you will end up spending there.
Cons – There is absolutely no leadership qualities in the managers, ranging from the store manager to the district manager. During my year and a half there, I went through 4 or 5 store managers. I know turnover rates are high in retail, but that is a ridiculous number. When the district manager came around we all felt like walking on egg shells. She never even spoke to the sales associates as if they weren't even people. You don't have to be a genius to be a good leader, but alienating your most important assets (front-line employees) is DEFINITELY not the way to go. It promotes poor morale and employees don't respect you, they just fear you. Bebe does nothing in terms of promoting growth or upward mobility in their company.
Advice to Senior Management – Provide better management and promote the importance of your front-line employees because at the of the day, they are the faces of Bebe. It's not the CEO, it's not the DM's, it's not anybody in the headquarters, it is your employees in the field. If you don't show them the respect and compensate them properly, it is going to promote poor morale and that can lead to some major problems.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
