Good Company. Good People In Management. Little Room For Growth

I have been working at gyrodata full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The management in Canada are awesome people.

The pay is fair (when there's work).

The benefits are great (RRSP contribution matching).

The work is interesting and demanding.

    Cons

Long hours (I'm ok with it, but others may find it taxing).

Little room for employee growth. Raises are not standardized (let alone cost of living raises). You can work for years and not see a single raise unless favored by management.

Little to no upward momentum within the company.

When it's slow, the salary alone can't pay your bills. And you're on call, so getting another job isn't viable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Standardize raises. Having a plan is fine, but put it in action. How does someone not get any form of raise in over a year? And it has been asked for multiple times!

When employees want to grow within the company, make it happen. I see some of the people who have been here the longest (and have the worst adittudes and work-practices) favored by management while employees who want to develop consistently (but don't complain constantly) get left behind.
If a manager doesn't really love an employee, they're all but ignored when it comes to growth.

Put more of the control for development in the hands of the employee (I'm not talking about e-learning, which is all but ignored by management). Let employees sign THEMSELVES up for courses they are qualified for, and then ACTUALLY HAVE THE CLASS HAPPEN. I have been signed up for the same course for over a year. Each time, it is cancelled.

    Pros

Plenty of opportunities to travel at work. Working in a small group of people.

    Cons

Poor medical benefits and some districts are run by dictator ship. The company image is completely damaged.
