    Pros

Can learn quite a bit on the job as long as you put in extra time. Great training ground for more advanced skill set and knowledge through hands-on access to equipment. Engineers work cooperatively (you have to in this environment) to get things done. If you ask, people are always willing to teach what they know when you can catch some down time. Co-workers are friendly and accepting, but do expect to work hard because there will be too many things on your plate.

    Cons

Older technology and and shrinking margins across the industry. Constant cost cutting. Drive to outsource is the norm despite shoddy results from outsource companies. Minimal to no investment in its people and in the network to make the books look better - this has been happening for a while, i.e. managing the numbers one quarter at a time. Staff is sometimes left to figure out how to install and configure equipment as a result and then train everybody else. Longer term employees are still very dedicated and consistently put in much more than a 40 hours work week. The entrepreneurial spirit no longer exist after KPN took over and took the company private.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The companies that excel are the ones that bite the bullet and invests in the future and its people despite the short term challenges. Forget your individual bonuses for a year or so for the better of the company and a bigger return in the future. You will then look like true leaders and will gain the trust of your employees.
