    Pros

Salary within my group is average. Steady, albeit high, work load that almost guarantees a job as long as you put in a legit 8 hrs a day. Very few layoffs or large scale firings.

    Cons

Benefits are poor to say the least, and I am a single 20s white male, I cant imagine what its like for a family, let alone anyone with young kids ( >10 yrs). While the salary for my group is average the raises are 2% or less, meaning the company values less and less over time as inflation continues. The NOC is run VERY LEAN, so lean in fact that it boarders on incompetency. The upper management doesn't know what the front line techs are doing, nor do they care to know, they blindly push forth procedural changes without regard for their repercussions. Then when things go awry management knee-jerks again with more procedure without proper research. As a result of this procedure and process failure the NOC is a very frustrating place to work. There is very little guidance with very little structure on how to succeed or move on. There is very little provided to entice and motivate the techs on the floor, instead it is an overwhelming manager opinion that we work as hard as possible and as lean as possible just so they can save that extra cash, but what they don't see is that by reducing the NOC's capability to work quality issues we are forcing a quantity mentality, which will only further the company into the ground and rounded up as a typical telecom company that doesn't care about its customers.

    Advice to Management

Get in the trenches with the technicians, you don't need to know all the technical aspect, but watch how much of their day is impacted by stupid rules and guidelines. Watch and listen to the people the techs have to deal with, both internal and external to the company, customers included. The NOC is run so lean there is no room for advancement personally or professionally, hire more people in the NOC.

    Pros

tw Provides a steady revenue stream while balancing that growth to needs of the cost centers (NOC). There is not much history of over-hiring and huge layoffs as sales swing over time.

    Cons

Much power and attention given to HR wherein they direct a workforce management that includes micro-managing your time. Most employees in Denver NOC are required to log in & out at the desk. Petty attention given to signing in one minute late. Employees made to feel like children.

    Advice to Management

Real value is in quality and productivity metrics - not how long someone sits at a desk. Also, keep tabs on your middle management and their bonus incentive. They will walk all over their direct reports for that bonus without regard for employee retention.
