Pros
Fun place to work, nice offices, nice people, strong engineers
Cons
Lack of communication from management, leaders of the company, and staff, no idea if your position is ever safe, things changing constantly, lack of tools
Pros
Great opportunity for advancement and looks like solid growth prospects
Cons
work is hard and can at time put pressure on work/life balance
Advice to Senior Management
keep up the communication
Pros
Good friendly co workers to work with and pleasant environment generally, nice cafeteria and the cubes and office setup are good.
Cons
Not much innovation or cutting edge work that happens at emulex. People are old fashioned and there are so many directors, some of them who have only 1 person working under them.
Advice to Senior Management
Too many directors and software engeers get paid too less, engineers are not given enough credit for their work at emulex.
Pros
Slow pace, and low expectaton. If need be, you have the time to learn things that are of intrest to your manager, but it will be done all on your own and expect little aid and assistance
Cons
Management is not aware or interactive with the progress or expectations of the employess. It seems to be that it is there way or the high way, and they are always right
Advice to Senior Management
Employees need the opertunity to grow and to be trusted. What works for you may not be the best or the perfered way.
Pros
Nice and Helpful people at Senior Engineer level. Immediate managers are good but helpless because of Senior management.
Cons
Bad treatment to contract employees. Mostly a reference based company. Interns are forced to work for menial tasks and career growth is very limited if you are not in a right team.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop exploiting contract employees.
Pros
Accomodating to work style, but it depends on mngrs perception of telecommuting. Some frown on it, some welcome it. Great people to work with in development groups. People are awesome with great work ethic.
Cons
Difficult to determine how managers decide how much raise is given to employees. Seems like they've already picked their favorites and if you aren't on their top list, you'll never be even though you work your butt off and meet your goals. Highly aggressive schedules.
Advice to Senior Management
See cons and come up with ideas. This is a difficult problem to solve and probably applies to any company - not just Emulex. Help people be their best and actively ask individuals their concerns and find ways to address them.
Pros
Technology, small work force, very skilled managers.
Cons
Compensation and other benefits are not attractive.
Advice to Senior Management
compensation and other benefits are somewhat overlooked.
Pros
Not a lot to say about Pros. Corporate office is located in a nice part of Southern California. They have decent benefits.
Cons
Way too many VPs, Directors, and such. Very top heavy without having much responsibility. Hard for lower level managers and engineers to get things done effectively.
Advice to Senior Management
Lose some of the fluff in the VP/Director level. Empower the lower level managers and engineers. Listen to people at all sites, not just the main site in Costa Mesa.
Pros
Low pressure, nice computer setup
Cons
No reward for performance, questionable HR policies
Advice to Senior Management
Learn that employees are valuable and reward good performers
Pros
Good technology to work, Nice Low level engineering team to work with
Cons
Not Good salary, Not very good management in San Jose
Advice to Senior Management
Take a time to help employees to grow and compensations needs to be in par with Industry and job location.
