    Pros

Benefits, Bonus structure, Great People to work with, Open Source code, Top of the line hardware, cutting edge technology, architecture was very well understood.

    Cons

Upper management unfair, company direction unsure, new development slowed to a crawl, location was not good (out in the middle of nowhere).

I have been working at Emulex full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits, on campus gym and many discounts. Work-life balance exists for some. Business casual environment with jeans on Fridays. Central location, easy to get to.

    Cons

Benefit cost to the employee has gone up over the years. None existent work-life balance for some. Very expense driven. Always looking at the past and not enough attention on the future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

focus on training and career paths for all employees. Provide adequate training for management, so they actually know how to successfully manage people.

I have been working at Emulex full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Extremely successful at leveraging their OEM relationship, and some strong growth in the LOM and Ethernet adapter business. Some recent market pressures from a few industry sore losers have caused some recent stumbling, but it isn't something they can't recover from

Have done well growing the Chinese market as well.

If you are considered a top performer, your salary is well taken care of. Their health benefits maintained fairly good, or better than companies twice or more it's size.

    Cons

Some activist investors have gotten involved and the expense of engineering has been crushed to the borderline of making it hard to compete with companies like Intel who have pocketbooks bigger than the entire company.

The Endace business does not seem to have materialized as planned. Revenue seems still ASIC business heavy.

The hardware engineering team for our ASICs seem to be worked to death, I hope they are well compensated/rewarded for their near constant herculean efforts to meet our schedules with limited resources.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A sustaining engineering team for our support issues found in the field would be much welcome. Some issues taking days to get a response on are rather painful, and our AE team shouldn't have to use favors and coercion to get customer issues looked at/scheduled to be fixed in between the new product launches.

I worked at Emulex full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great work environment and strong company values where the customers and employees are highly valued.

    Cons

The FC business is declining with heavy investments going into growing new portions of the business, however none of it appears to be profitable or likely to achieve profitability within the next several years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the good work environment, and invest in programs that don't overburden engineering and will provide significant and profitable revenue.
