    I worked at Enbridge Energy

    Pros

Great pay, good coworkers, great location, steady industry which allows one to make a good living without having to go to Illinois.

    Cons

Sometimes you may have to work a lot of overtime or night shift but all that is not necessarily a bad thing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open to hire people with experience that can do the job, instead of just looking for a college paper that says someone can pass a school test.

I worked at Enbridge Energy as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

    Relaxed environment and professional.

Friendly co workers and down to earth employees their from various departments in the Houston office as well as field office employees in throughout Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, Illinois, and North Dakota.

Enbridge salaried employees work on a 9/80 schedule, which is every other Friday off

    Casual Friday dress code.

Breakfast and lunch was catered by managers from time to time.

Very diverse company to work for. VERY PROUD TO SAY THAT- All ethnic groups are at Enbridge, unlike most oil and gas companies!!!

Did some networking while employed there and received great references for future opportunities.

Gained experience in the oil and gas industry.

    Cons

Was hired on for a short period of time and was under the impression that the job would last and become permanent.
    .
Department was outsourced to Toronto, Ontario- Canada.

Same department in Edmonton, Alberta- Canada will also be outsourced to Toronto in May 2015.

No corporate trainer was sent to Houston office to learn procedures and protocols in order to teach Toronto staff that was replacing us.

Company has a lot of baby boomers who are not willing to adapt to technology advancements in the workplace as well as not willing to work on computers when necessary.

Employees are given smartphones with no idea on how to use devices and its a sink or swim environment for learning technology.

Benefits enrollment was changed for 2015 and employees had to go online to enrollment. A lot of field workers that I personally spoke with did not own computers at home.

Enbridge may soon be completely back in Canada at the rate that they are going with more layoffs to come in 2015.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in training employees on technology that the company issues out in United States and Canada, versus giving them a phone number to call for assistance- good luck standpoint. You wouldnt want someone doing that to you now, would you?

Dont insist on having employees meet their replacements on Skype/teleconferencng after the fact that we are being laid off. We are already in a state of disposition for losing our jobs and then managers in Canada ask us for feedback of the learning process your replacements are implementing.

Make benefits enrollment easy for everyone with more than one option, instead of making the assumption that everyone has a computer with internet access in their home.

I have been working at Enbridge Energy as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Mid-sized company, coworkers are friendly, have numerous training programs and upper level management are encouraging and helpful to learn from. 9/80 schedules and located in downtown.

    Cons

A little difficult to move around given the size of the company and also the fact that many of the upper level positions have been filled for numerous amount of years. Salaries are competitive but are not in the higher range of the spectrum.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have more opportunities for recent graduates or entry level positions to move around in the company. Implement some kind of rotational program that will expose employees to different aspects of the business.

I have been working at Enbridge Energy full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay is ok, enjoyable work, fast pace, excellent benefits.

    Cons

Management, likes to keep employees in fear of losing their jobs. They promote who they like based on looks not work ethic or work production.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to what's really going on in your company. You will never have employees come fourth with what is going on in your company as long as your have field management intimidating employees. Sending out the same management to get in put of what is right or wrong with the company is not getting to the bottom of what really is going on. You don't want to know the truth keep doing what you are doing!

    Pros

Growth Oriented- constant change to become "The Best", the company has a great outlook for the future and is always looking to be the leading edge....they'll get you outside your comfort zone and lead you on a developmental path inorder to take you places you didn't think you could go!

    Cons

The cons could be the same as the pros if you don't like change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Enbridge Energy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are great. Good Time Off. Benefits are very reasonable. A flexible work schedule allows you to have every other Friday off work. Company pays for parking or Bus Fare.

    Cons

Since the main office is in Houston, and the city is so spread out, the commute to downtown is long and if you drive, very costly. Due to Corporate being in Canada, a culture clash does occur on some policies and procedures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not treat the US portion of the company as the "red headed stepchild." Promote the US as much as you promote the other portions of the company.
