I have been working at Encana full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great opportunities and a bright future

    Cons

The 'old guard' in the ranks need to get on board with the new strategy or get out of the way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although not as exciting or sexy as being the 'innovator' or 'first to discover', being a quick and agile 'first follower' is a good strategy as long as the business process support that strategy.

    Pros

    Great training programs and internships.

    Cons

got laid off in a corporate restructuring/downsizing event.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wasn't a very well thought out downsizing since you are continuing to offer new grads jobs after you laid off all of last years new grads.

Encana is a fun but strenuous place to work. The benefits seem to make up for a lot of negatives.

I worked at Encana full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great benefits and working environment - vacation based on age from 3-8 weeks; 401K match up to 10%; money purchase plan solely contributed to by Encana; every other Friday off; free drinks and snacks in the office; more offices than cubicles; full IT support 24 hours a day; company phone or contribution to bill; stipend for parking and wellness ($2500 a year); annual bonus averaging 20% of salary; long term incentives; excellent insurance; Ecopass

    Cons

Encana is poor at leadership selection. Leaders are often put into positions based solely on tenure rather than actual qualifications for the position. Also, personnel management skills are a low priority for selecting managers.

Although, Encana as a company puts a high value on work/life balance, mant departments do not. Leaders often expect that you are available to work on evenings, weekends and vacations.
