Not one of the best/top places I've worked

Underwriting Assistant (Former Employee)
Ottawa, ON (Canada)

I worked at Encon as a contractor for less than a year

Proscompetitive salaries, flexible start/end times

ConsHR practices are unethical, lots of internal politics, functional managers need to be more transparent, temps and contracts are treated differently despite the same workload as full time, underwriters lack respect for underwriting assistants.

Advice to Senior Managementneed for focus groups, and more employee opinion surveys.

Satisfied.

Underwriter (Current Employee)
Ottawa, ON (Canada)

I have been working at Encon

ProsGood safe job. You deal with brokers all across Canada. Encon generally has a very good perception in the marketplace which makes it easier when promoting their products.

Consboring work and there is alot of it, they encourage underwriters to meet with broker; however, there is always a ton of work when you return to the office. Also, there isn't any incentive to meet brokers... no bonuses.

Advice to Senior ManagementBonus structure to promote incentive to write and retain business, also, bonuses for meeting with brokers, not just extra work for no extra money.

jail time is being employed here as a CSR

Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)
Toronto, ON (Canada)

I have been working at Encon

Prosjust to receive a pay check

Consmanagment is inmature, staff is very unprofessional, work loads are triple compared to the insurance industry around the city, little or no chance of advancement as people are hand picked for a job on length of employment but not based on competence. the Salary is low but most CSR roles are burden with work and are low paying. There is little opportunity to advance with formal training as there is no time or budget for this. Employees are nice but childish and this is due to the nature of the types of people who work here. Management cause most of the employees dissatisfaction.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake management courses work openly with the staff, create better processes to stramline productivity. Allow the chance to work remotely. It will increase the amount of work being done..
