    Pros

    Clean environment, easy access to freeway

    Cons

    Disrespect for employees and customers is demonstrated daily with facade of corporate values and Consumer Bill of Rights
    Leadership is based on egotistical dominance and manipulation of truth to hide incompetence and fiscal irresponsibility
    High turnover due to true talent realizing corruption and individuals standing up to management with no objective support HR

    Advice to Management

    Clean house of ego-maniac management and treat employees and customer with basic respect

    Pros

    Nice offices, okay benefits, if you understand them. A lot of people working on the same things, and going different directions. it's chaos at best. Leadership is sketchy, and doesn't seem to lead the company well. If you are part of the bonus plan the pay is good, if you're not, then it's terrible.

    Cons

    Bonus plan is not applied fairly. Leaders act like spoiled bossy brats. Everyone walks around saying they are so busy, but what's getting done?

    Advice to Management

    Slow down; focus on managing people, getting them engaged and find out what it takes to keep them at Encore Capital. (Talk to them).

    Pros

    Benefits are great if you understand how they work.

    Cons

    Company culture has gone down the drain since 2013 when the previous CEO left the organization. Many of the employees that joined prior to 2013 are leaving based on the way the Executive team behaves. It's too bad because the company was on the way to truly re-branding debt collection.

    Advice to Management

    Try getting off the 11th floor from time to time to see what's really going on.

    Pros

    People are easy to get along with. The millennials are particularly fun, but the company is losing them like crazy because there's no growing internal career paths.

    Starting pay is okay (but it doesn't increase faster than inflation).

    Cons

    Pay increases are virtually non-existent. They don't even beat inflation for 80%+ of employees. The only way to get a "meaningful" raise (still only 5%) is if you're promoted - and that happened to only one person I knew while working at Encore for well over a year.

    The company is behind the times - IT is slow, and they're using arcane systems that were built in the 90's. My phone has more ram than my office computer.

    People under 30 tend to work here for about 3 years, then leave. It's not a place to make a career unless you're entering as a manager.

    Monthly deadlines make it a feast-or-famine workload. Some days, you will be swamped, working a double shift. Others, you will have nothing to do (and often will have to stay in the office for no reason).

    Taking time off can be a pain - it takes 2 weeks+ with some managers to get a request in. Also the company's busiest time is the end of December/first quarter. Peons in the corporate office often don't get to take time off at all around the holidays because of this.

    Management plays favorites.

    Reviews are only annual, and feedback is limited, so you won't even know whether you're about to get fired or promoted for most of the year.

    Advice to Management

    Give your non-management employees decent raises. The recession is over. And a $200 "bonus" is insultingly low for a finance company, even if it was unexpected.

    Tell your employees how they're doing constantly and clearly. The current year end review program is terrible and useless. Be sure to tell them "good job" too. Some things don't deserve awards, but they are worth at least a pat on the back.

    Give some stock to your lower employees (or at least give them an option to buy at a discount). It will increase employee engagement, and give employees a right to have a voice in the way the company functions.

    Create a definitive internal career development path. There is really only room to get promoted if someone else leaves, and that really doesn't happen with management at Encore. Might also be good to force people to rotate through different departments. Some managers are way too comfortable.

    Fix IT. That department gets more internal complaints than anyone else. Here's how to fix them:
    -Limit the help desk to only one type of ticket (none of these "incident report" vs "project request" vs everything), and actually enforce them. They get closed all the time for no reason
    -Give everyone doing analytics a decent computer. Waiting just to open an excel file is annoying.
    -iSeries is old. Replace it with something new and shiny.
    -Know that the people who work in IT are smart, capable people. They just have bad tools and poor direction.

    Advice to Management

    It's okay to put career pathing decisions into employee hands but make sure you have a system in place to support actual development of employees.

    I really like the people who work here. They're down to earth and for the most part willing to listen to suggestions and take feedback.

    Cons

    It can sometimes be a little bureaucratic and there definitely a difference in people's perceptions of the value analysts bring compared to other roles in the company.

    Try to push to make things equal where you're able to.

    Have met some good and genuine coworkers, Excellent 401K match, convenient location, company making an international footprint, had good learning opportunities

    Cons

    Company Culture...period. I use to be optimistic about Encore as an employer of choice but the bureaucratic environment puts a damper on even being happy to come to work. There are a few managers that you feel genuinely care about your growth in the company. But unfortunately, there are more managers you feel will smile in your face to lighten the scenario but are not as invested. It has become a numbers game and it has effected everyone. There is no longer a community here. There is talent flying out the door, not because they are fired but because they resign. There is effort by leadership to bring change but it is clear they are moving at a pace way slower than the market and this is hurting the company in major ways.

    Advice to Management

    Implement a formal coaching and mentoring program for all levels of the organization sooner than later. You speak of talent retention but the genuine effort is not apparent yet. You can't expect employees to embrace a message that is treated in a siloed manner. A few team builders are addressing symptoms...not the root issues. Encore's reputation as an employer in the San Diego market is not great.
