    I have been working at Energias de Portugal

    Pros

    Growth opportunity, emerging green technologies experience, motivated young professionals, little constraints on opportunity or direction. (HORIZON)

    Cons

    POOR management, segmented divisions/departments operating at a very different pace and with little unified structure. Poor executive direction and communication of overall objectives and company-wide initiatives. UNDERQUALIFIED Mid-level management is a tremendous road block for growth potential of professional level employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Houston office is benefiting greatly from increased involvement of EDP, but we need to revamp and organize at Development level so that initiatives are more clearly defined and projects are more viable with less last minute issues that prevent or defer construction. Rebranding is not being taken seriously enough, this should be an opportunity to align ourselves with EDP and bring Horizon to the level of EDP as a globally recognized energy leader. Mid level management is not qualified to be operating at their level and management training should be mandatory so that US managers understand their capacity and responsibility as EDP members and to their employees.

    I have been working at Energias de Portugal full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Great place to work. Good environment, flexible work hours, mostly great colleagues, very interesting work with lots of challenges.

    Cons

    Lots of burocracies, very hard to get promotions, so-so salaries and bonus are shrinking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More transparency on the criterias for promotions, more feedback, make sure that what the feedback is is reflected on the bonus.

    I have been working at Energias de Portugal full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    The office culture, company values, the work-life balance and the compensation & benefits are definitely big cons for whoever works at EDP.
    Also the expansion on new geographies, the advance on renewable energies and smart grids make EDP one of the most outstanding utilities in the world. Leader Utility on Down Jones Index for Sustainability!

    Cons

    Promotions are very hard to get. Time-off policies also. The average age of the employees is also very high; wish can be good in one way, but also disruptive from another.

    I have been working at Energias de Portugal full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Good company, with lots of initiatives for their employees;
    Great salary and work-life balance;
    If you just want to have a regular job (well-paid for the Portuguese reality) it is the place to be;
    Positive atmosphere, with good social values

    Cons

    There aren't many opportunities to grow inside the company;
    There are many initiatives trying to cultivate innovation, but usually those are one-time events more for the public show-off than for real impact;
    Company too dependent on public compensations and not available for listening the markets where it operates and providing value added solutions;
    Bureaucracy is a must;
    The company management is embarking on the outsourcing fever, failing to appreciate the great resources they have available in-house.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop delegating your job on consulting firms that do not know better than us the energy business;
    Stop the outsourcing madness, and cost cutting just for the sake of it;
    Allow innovation within the company, that can translate into value added marketable products and services.

    Pros

    Money comes everymonth. It´s possible to know many people, In spite of all, is the electricity company of reference in Portugal (just managed like a bank)

    Cons

    Wrong structured organization. Debt too heavy. Disastrous human resources policy. Completely uncoordinated work between departments. New wave trends that lead to nowhere: Voluntary work, foundation, sustainability, talents finding, ethics, communication, bla, bla, bla

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Review strategy, structure and market. Stop that ridiculous communication network.
